Company Overview

Our client is a leading Global Port Agency committed to delivering exceptional solutions in the maritime sector. Their primary focus is to “Save Time, Save Money and Reduce Risk” for Charterers, Owners, Operators, and Ship Managers involved in the global movement of dry, liquid, and gas commodities. Our client prides themselves in joining the dots between load ports and discharge ports in more than 90 countries worldwide to ensure the most efficient execution of their client’s cargo, vessel or crew, with an emphasis on Safety, Compliance and Environmental Impact. They deal with some of the largest mining companies, trading houses, oil majors, ship owners and ship managers in the world. Their headquarters is located in Dubai, and they have various offices located around the world including Regional Management offices in: The United States, Panama, Shanghai and Singapore.  They are currently embarking on an exciting new venture of expanding their business and services to The Netherlands. This expansion includes opening a brand-new office in Rotterdam which will serve as the central hub for their clients and business in the ARA/Europe region.

Position Summary

The Business Development Manager will play a pivotal role in the expansion of their business into The Netherlands but also canvassing business through local customers for the International market. You will be responsible for driving business growth, fostering strategic partnerships, and expanding their market presence across international ports in the ARA region to begin with. You will play a focal role in identifying new business opportunities, developing and executing sales strategies, and nurturing client relationships to achieve revenue targets. This role is looking for someone hands on, business minded, ambitious and passionate about the maritime industry.

Essential Functions

  • Business Growth Strategy: Develop and implement a robust business development strategy to expand our clients services across the ARA region, identifying key markets, and driving growth opportunities.
  • New Business Acquisition: Lead the identification, pursuit, and acquisition of new business opportunities through proactive outreach, networking, and presentations, demonstrating the value proposition of our agency’s services.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct thorough market research and analysis to identify potential clients, industry trends, competitor strategies, and market demands to capitalize on emerging opportunities.
  • Client Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients, understanding their needs, and ensuring high-quality service delivery to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • New Business Acquisition: Lead the identification, pursuit, and acquisition of new business opportunities through proactive outreach, networking, and presentations, demonstrating the value proposition of our agency’s services.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Collaborate closely with internal teams, including operations, finance, and marketing, to ensure alignment in business strategies, pricing structures, and service offerings.
  • Proposal Development: Prepare compelling proposals, presentations, and contract negotiations tailored to meet the unique requirements of potential clients, outlining the advantages of partnering with our agency.
  • Performance Tracking: Establish and maintain performance metrics and KPIs to track sales performance, analyze trends, and make data-driven decisions to achieve sales targets and objectives.

Here’s what you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sales, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Proven track record in business development within the maritime, shipping, or logistics industry, preferably within port agency services.
  • Strong understanding of global port operations, industry regulations, and market dynamics.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • Strategic thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to travel not just around the ARA region, but internationally where/when required.
