Three things consistently complicate Dutch senior marketing offers. First, equity vs. base trade-offs. The strongest Dutch marketing leaders increasingly negotiate hard on equity and refresh grants, particularly for VP and CMO roles where the brief includes brand or category creation. We benchmark equity grants honestly against the Dutch scale-up market rather than US comp tables.
Second, brand and content IP. Senior Dutch marketing leaders often carry meaningful personal brand IP (newsletter audiences, conference circuits, podcast followings). Confidential searches need to acknowledge that and structure outreach around it without compromising on discretion.
Third, the 30 percent ruling. For relocation candidates the gross-to-net impact of the ruling can shift effective take-home by 15 to 20 percent over the first five years of Dutch employment. Sometimes. The senior Dutch marketing pool includes a small number of leaders who genuinely operate across brand, demand and product marketing at executive level.
